Tips for Hiring Your Professional DJ
Here are some general guidelines to follow when hiring a DJ for your event. The rules apply no matter the type of event, wedding, school function, company picnic, etc.
- Hiring a DJ it is one of the most important decision to be made during the event planning process, so don't try to save a bit of money and go with a budget DJ, or the cheapest. Hire a DJ that has experience with your type of event and is a true professional. Performing at a wedding is very different than playing at a high school dance. Both deserve attention to detail, but the amount of time involved varies dramatically.
- We at DJ VIP Presents on average spend 30 - 50 hours per event. We attend trade shows, bridal shows, and upgrade our equipment on a regular bases. *"The best price is not always the best deal, especially if you are planning a wedding. A full service disc jockey will normally invest 12 to 30 hrs, to your special event but it may appear that you are only paying for 4 hours. Consultations, music purchasing, editing, preparation, set-up, tear-down, and other business related endeavors add up to the overall success of your special occasions."

- You are hiring a DJ for a reason, so let them be your guide on what to play at your event. A good DJ will of course want client input, but allow them the flexibility to make song choices. An experienced DJ can read a crowd, intermingle your song requests and blend all types of music styles. You are paying a DJ to make your event special, so allow them to entertain you and your guests.
- When hiring a professional DJ he/she should put everything in writing. It should clearly outline cost, if a deposit is required and when the final payment is due, any options that may have been selected, start & end times, and cancellation policy. Of course each DJs contract is a little different but these are the basic elements each contract should contain.
